Cyber assignment day 2
I am going to design a leather belt. I need to put eight symbols on it to describe myself and make it look good. The eight symbols that I would put on my belt are a baseball. I would definitely put a baseball on the belt because baseball is my favorite sport and I love it. My second symbol would be a cross, I've been going to church all my life and would always want a cross to be near me if I had a belt I would wear every day to represent my life journey. My third symbol would probably be a dog or a cat, I've grown up around animals and love having animals with me as much as possible. I wouldn't know what to do without my dog and cat at my house. My fourth symbol would be a tree or something of the nature. I always love being outside doing stuff, I love to hike in the woods near my house as well. My fifth symbol would be a symbol representing my family. I love them to death and they have been such a great part of my life so far and will always be. A sixth symbol would be something painted of me and my friends, I don't know where i'd be today without the great friends I have in my life. A seventh symbol would be where I have grown up for most of my life. I love where I live and all the people where I live. The last symbol (eighth) would be of South Carolina, where some of our really really good family friends moved to a couple years ago. I grew up around them and miss them every day. We did so much together.

Cyber Day
- Paul Shepard
- Best known book is "Pleistocene Paradigm"
- "The desert is the environment of revelation genetically and physiologically alien, sensorily austere, esthetically abstract, historically inimical." "To the deserts go prophets and hermits; through deserts go pilgrims and exiles." (page 25)
- this author and these quotations I use seem to connect with Chris MCcandless through his journey while he was living in the desert and living with some pretty interesting people, some types of people that Paul Shepard listed
- "Start by doing what's necessary; then do what's possible, and suddenly you are doing the impossible." This is one of my favorite quotes because it is saying, start from scratch, then start doing harder stuff, and then you will be able to conquer anything once you do the harder stuff and succeed at it. I think Chris would like this quote because this kind of states what he did for a long time in life. Yes, he would get it.

- Henry David Thoreau
- best known for the book "Walden"
- "If the day and night are such that you greet them with joy, and life emits a fragrance like flowers and sweet scented herbs, is more elastic, more starry, more immortal, - that is your success." "The greatest gains and values are farthest from being appreciated. We easily come to doubt if they exist." (page 47)
- These quotes relate to Chris because he didn't take any day for granted, lived every day to the fullest, no matter what. These quotes are saying not too and Chris definitely didn't.
- "No matter the circumstances that you may be going through, just push through it." I love this quote because it says to never ever give up in life no matter what you're going through. I think Chris would enjoy this quote because he never gave up, he kept pushing along in life, just trying to survive. Yes I think he would get it.

- Mark Twain
- The Adventures of Tom Sawyer
- "There was some books... One was Pilgrim's Progress, about a man that left his family, it didn't say why." (page 61)
- This quote connects with the story of Chris because he never told his family he was leaving, or anyone.
- "My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style." I like this quote because it tells you to experience life in a big picture instead of staying sheltered from everything that you could enjoy in life. I think Chris would like this quote because it somewhat explains his life. He might get it.

Hawaii
I would like to travel to many places in the United States, but I really want to go to Hawaii. I want to go there to learn how to surf, and I would like to go hiking to a volcano. I have seen pictures of the nature in Hawaii and it looks amazing to hike in, with huge green forests, tall mountains, and big, powerful waterfalls.
I would get to Hawaii by taking United flight UA1568 from Baltimore at 6 am and flying into San Francisco. From there I would take United flight UA300 leaving at 11:25 am and arriving in Honolulu, Hawaii at 3 pm. The trip would cost $1,641. http://www.united.com/web/en-US/apps/booking/flight/searchResult1.aspx I would stay at the Marriott Courtyard at Waikiki beach. http://www.hotels.com/hotel/details.html?children%5B0%5D=0&previousDateful=false&reviewOrder=date_newest_first&dd=02/21/15&so=PRICE&rl=CITY:1431094:PROVIDED:PROVIDED&roomno=1&pa=2&did=1431094&rooms%5B0%5D.numberOfAdults=2&tab=description&dn=Honolulu,+Hawaii,+United+States+of+America&hotelId=245329&cd=02/12/15&ZSX=0&SYE=3&MGT=7&YGF=1
Hawaii is known for their people, who are very laid back, the massive waves that you can surf on, the great climate, and the beautiful volcanoes and mountains. The weather in Hawaii is almost always sunny during the day and warm, with some humidity. They have a season where most of the time it's raining. Things I need to take on this trip would consist of t-shirts and shorts, a couple bathing suits, a lot of sunscreen lotion, a hat and sunglasses, bug spray, toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, soap, a couple pairs of flip flops and shoes, and definitely a camera to capture the amazing sights I would get to see.
If I made this into a reality trip I would definitely want to set up some things to do besides just sit on the beach all day. I would want to go hiking through the forests and on a volcano, I would want to take lessons on how to surf, I would want to try and skydive, and I would want to experience the way the Hawaiian people live down there. I would also want to go to a variety of different beaches.

Biography of Author Jon Karakauer
The author of Into The Wild is Jon Krakauer. He was born on April 12, 1954, in Brookline, Massachusetts. Though he grew up in Oregon. As a child he began learning how to mountain climb at 8 years old, he really must enjoy being in the outdoors. He attended Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts. In 1977 he pioneered up a new route up The Devils Thumb in southeast Alaska, and in 1996 he reached the top of Mt. Everest. He journeyed up Mt. Everest with four other friends, who died on the descent down the mountain. After that trip he then wrote about it for Outside magazine and in his book Into The Air. That was the start of his book writing career and later on became a journalist in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Time Smithsonian, National Geographic, and lots more. After all of his time as a journalist he then decided to write a book Called Into The Wild. Which I will be reading and discussing on my blog later on. Thanks for reading and I will keep you updated for when I read again. http://www.cliffsnotes.com/literature/i/into-the-wild/jon-krakauer-biography

Into the Wild intro

http://busaff.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/into-the-wild-pdvd_030-2.jpg
I just started reading some background on Into The Wild. The book is about retracing the steps of a young man, Christopher McCandless who decided one day that he wanted to go off and explore the back woods of Alaska. It seems kind of strange because he didn't really seem to have a good plan to survive in the woods of Alaska, and it turns out that he only lasted three months into his ascension. According to the article Christopher McCandless survived a little over a hundred days and was found dead in a bus that he was staying in. Now the author is going to walk us through his one hundred day journey until he dies. I invite you to follow along with my blog as I read the story. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Into_the_Wild_(book)
